Alpacas!

John and I paid a visit to a local alpaca ranch last weekend that had over 400 alpacas. The seminar was very informative and we learned a lot. Not to worry, we aren't switching from rabbits to alpacas, we just like looking!

This is a Suri alpaca. It has a more silky texture to it's fiber. The rest of the alpacas were huacaya alpacas that had a more sheeplike texture, but still very soft. Not nearly as soft as my rabbits but softer than most wool.

Look at all the alpacas!!

A mom and her 3 day old baby.

The mom keeps a close eye on her baby.

This is a baby making date. It's not very romantic.

Even though this female alpaca has a 3 week old baby she is ready to be bred again. She will be pregnant for 344 days.

John :)

Look what was spotted at the rabbit show! After a lengthy illness which involved a long stay in the hospital, 2 minor surgeries, lots of prescription drugs, and many naps later we have a healthier, happier John. John likes hanging out with his bunnies!

It's been eons!

I know, I know. It's been FOREVER since I last posted here but let's just say it was due to circumstances beyond my control. Fun things like blogging have been replaced by mowing the lawn, grooming, mowing the lawn, grooming, and did I mention MOWING THE LAWN?

Anywho....

We went to a show last night. It was a great night to have a rabbit show since the temps were very cool. We didn't get home until after midnight, it was so late even our dogs went to bed before we got home. It was worth it though. Edie got best of breed and Armando got best opposite sex of breed in show A. In show B Armando took best of breed and Bree got best opposite sex of breed. Aside from winning in the rabbit show we also won big in the raffle. Stuff we didn't really need like junk food but it's always fun to win something.

Baby Bunnies!

Last week Laura was taking inventory in her backyard and look what she found! We all know how Laura feels about baby bunnies so she didn't hurt them. My guess is that they were born April 1 as they still don't have their eyes open and just started growing hair. It will be fun to watch them grow. I hope they all make it.
