Today I got a minute during this busy holiday season at Big Times Kennel to sit down and enjoy my bunny.... And my cat. I think there is some internal magnet that Morty and I possess that compels him to sit in my lap regardless if it is already occupied.

A gift!
Recently I received a LOVELY gift of FREE fiber from a very thoughtful friend. I came home to a few pounds of alpaca, no kidding. This thoughtful friend was visiting her son who has a neighbor that raises alpacas and she came away with all this fiber for ME! Seriously, is this a good friend or what?!
I believe this bag was 3 pounds worth of first cuts. I think it wants to be a sweater if I ever find the time.
This is a bag of seconds but don't be fooled. It is super soft. It will take a bit of working with to clean it up but it has great potential. Mittens, anyone??

More bunny shots
It's been a busy Thanksgiving at Big Times with lots of boarding dogs and cats but I am managing to capture a few bunny shots. The bun bun is now 2 weeks old and she (or he) is a chocolate tort just like the mom. Sex is yet to be determined. I find it very hard to sex just one rabbit since I don't do this very often. I figure I will know at least by the time I put the rabbit on the judging table;)

feeding time
As you can see, the little bun is almost ready to pop out of the nest box. Won't be long now.

We got a little video of chocolate tort baby before feeding time. He/she actually climbed out of the box looking for breakfast today.

Bunny shots
The new bun is 3 days old now and filling out. I am relieved that the mom has milk and takes good care of her baby.
Here's a head shot. No fuzzy bunny ears just yet.
This is my favorite thing, a full milk belly!

A bunny is born
After many months of trying and slightly older rabbits we finally got a new bunny at Big Times! Just one little tort of a sort which was finally born on day 35. Since we had a previous bad experience with a litter and the same mom. I decided to play it safe and got an x-ray taken 2 days ago to see what, if anything, was in Too Sexy. The x-ray showed just one rabbit. So far so good:)

My rabbitry
I don't think I have ever posted pictures of where I keep my rabbits. This is a room that is heated and airconditioned which is very convenient for me, however, it does limit the number of rabbits I can have. The large black dog is Laura which you may remember as the dog that fears baby bunnies.
This is Copper who could possibly be one of the longest living guinea pigs that I know of. She was a 'gift' from a former employee that is around 6 years old. I have never owned a guinea pig before but I rather like this little pet. She has lots of personality and knows a bag of carrots when she hears one.

And then there's Morty. He heard I was updating my blog insisted I put this picture in.

What I did on vacation...
John and I are enjoying a nice stay-cation and found a temporary friend to share our free time with. We were coming home from breakfast and came across this stray dog walking across a busy intersection. We finally tracked him down in an apartment complex dumpster diving. Using our finely honed dog luring technique (remember Roxy?) I was able to snare him with a slip knot leash while he was enjoying a free meal compliments of John's never ending supply of dog related items he travels around with in his van. So far no owner has claimed him. We are calling him 'Wesson' since he smells of cooking oil.

A Wool Gathering
This is probably my favorite weekend of the year as it is the annual Wool Gathering in Yellow Springs!
There was plenty to see and do with live animals and tons of yarn and fiber related stuff. I thought this llama looked rather pleased with himself.
]
I thought I had it rough grooming dogs. This guy's back has got to hurt by the end of the day.
Meeting up with my rabbit friends Annette and Lisa.
John and I. He gave up an agility trial today to come along with me and he even looks happy about it:>)

Sweet Annie
I discovered a wonderful herb last year with a very pleasant fragrance called Sweet Annie so I searched high and low this past spring and finally found it. It grows quite tall, around 6 feet and is likely to come back on it's own next year. I made a wreath out of it this morning.
Lest you doubt my wreath making abilities, the cat in the picture will attest to the fact I did not pilfer the photo:>)

I've been dyin' to show you...
I am a huge fan of using Kool-aid to dye my fiber since it is so safe and accessible but I find the red drinks don't really give a good red dye. It's more of a deep orange. So when I was shopping at JoAnn's this past weekend I found a Jacquard dye called iDye color fire red that is suitable for natural fibers and it produces a true red. All you need is a little vinegar as a mordant to set the color
and voila, this is what you get...

It's been a while
I haven't been blogging for a while and had hoped to share some new baby bunny pictures but unfortunately the bunny gods were not accomodating. It's kind of hard to carry on a 'bunny blog' without new bunnies!!
So I will share some pictures of what has been keeping me busy:
I have been doing a lot of this lately. So much, in fact, I seem to be inspired to do little else. I see a light at the end of the tunnel though as summer vacations are coming to an end. If the dog looks vaguely familiar it's because 'Andy' has been featured on this blog before. He has grown! And so too has his hair.
I have been doing lots of this also but don't worry, this isn't turning into a cooking blog! The neigbor's garden was calling me. I felt the need to make LOTS of things with cabbage, zucchini, and those black berries growing in the back field. I think I am over it now.
More pictures to come...

Pumkins... Or not.
I have six pumkin plants that are all growing like weeds in various spots and not a one of them has a pumkin growing. I check daily and see that the bees are doing their job but yet, no pumkins! I feel cheated:(
